What about SMS controllers?
They are wired exactly the same as Atari, C64 and Amiga controllers, so no danger there.
Alternatively, I think the absolute best method (if you have the tools) is to mod some NES controllers for use on the commodore systems, as you can wire up the 2nd button as d-pad up, and use it for jumping in platformers, and accellerate in some racing games. Makes the systems much more playable if you ask me. I actually did a write-up recently about this exact mod that you might find useful.
Since my brother bought an SMS before I got the NES for Christmas I always used his SMS controllers on our 2600. Only game I can remember it sucking with was Decathlon because you had to press left->right->repeat in order to go faster and that doesn’t really work on a d-pad.
That’s it really. Up for jump and only one action button really killed the system for so many games back in the day.
Some misc pickups. I already have Star Wars, but this copy was cheap and is in better condition. It inexplicably came with full materials for Brave Fencer Musashiden along with all the Star Wars stuff inside! Very strange. Mobile Golf i’ve been looking out for for a while, being a Nintendo release that never made it out of Japan. Elemental Gearbolt i’ll admit to having not much idea about! It looked like a somewhat cool shootery game based on the back of the box. Turns out it’s a lightgun game so I have more motivation for tracking down a Guncon now!
Yeah it certainly seems like a massive oversight in retrospect. The Amiga systems were much more powerful that most other platforms of the era, but it really suffers in the control dept. A lot of the absolute masterpieces on the system are mouse/keyboard driven for good reason I guess!
Picked up another Densha de Go game: Professional 2. I’ve also got the Sanyou Shinkansen game on the way after trying the demo which came with 3. Poor condition but it was significantly cheaper. Couldn’t pass it up.
I played through elemental gearbolt. It was pretty fun. Despite me using an english guide to keep track of the story I still had no idea what was happening.
Bought some plates for the OSSC, didn’t bother changing them all because the new top plate alone looks great
Never even heard of this one. Is this a Blazblue game?
Thanks for asking!
Alas there’s no relation to Blazblue, Arc System Works’ logo is a red herring
It’s from the developer (French-Bread) behind the older Melty Blood games, they also did Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax for Sega - a mashup of Sega game worlds and Dengeki Bunko light novel characters. Arc System Works helped with the netcode and console ports though.
I’m not a fighting game enthusiast by any means but I really dug the last version of Under Night In-Birth, the mechanics are easy to get to grips with and the combo system very fun to master. Has a great atmosphere to in its presentation.
What’s nice about having the game on Switch is the screen resolution is a perfect match for the 720p visuals all the games have had so far - looks really crisp!
A few I picked up yesterday. That brings me to 4 VB games (already had Mario Clash, Mario Tennis, Teleroboxer) and I think the only other VB games I now want are the two Tetris games.
Both of those Wario games are really cool.
I’ve played WL4 a bunch before, just never owned it. VB WL was why I bought a VB in the first place so I’m glad to finally have it.
Got this is the mail today. She’ll go next to my BotW Link on Epona.
In the last couple weeks I bought retro…
These came from three different stores including one I had never been to before in Rio Grande, NJ called Hidden Level Games which is well worth visiting if you are in the area. The others are from my usual haunts… Just Press Play in York, PA and Complete in Box in Ephrata, PA.
Got a really good price on Sonic R too, btw. It’s minty also. Very happy with that one. No book with Shadow Blasters though.
What are the three black label games? Looks interesting
Looks like Last Battle, Mercs and Ex-Mutants.
Yes, as @Shinriji has already identified, those are Ex-Mutants, Last Battle and Mercs. Ex-Mutants is a little ratty, but not as bad and the Adventures of Batman & Robin with its torn label.
I never think to identify stuff because I’ve looked at the box art for these games for so long, even ones I don’t own, that I can see them from distance on sight walking into a store.
