RGB Pick Up Thread Of Swag!

I roll my eyes at naming the black/grey unit ‘USA’ when the PC Engine Duo was that colour first.

I got a surprise delivery today - wasn’t expecting it to make its way to Australia until after Christmas:

Unfortunately I won’t have time to tinker with it … until after Christmas.

I’ve been so busy I didn’t even remove the shrink wrap yet! Looking forward to it though. I am super excited to see play the R-Type port for the first time!

Took off the shrink to have a look today and man… their packaging and industrial design is so on point. Absolutely love the exterior looks, the box design, all of it. The no slip material on the bottom of the console is so cool!

I’m working til mid-next week so my play time will probably not start til then but I’m stoked. What a cool looking device.

Enjoy you new console. Be warned though, PC Engine collection is very catchy.

I think I have a good start…

The F1 game is unopened! I will bust it open tho. I mainly wanted to make sure I had a CD game to test the system with. I found Art of Fighting a little later after I also knew it would accept Arcade Card games without the Arcade Card.

Ah, Art of Fighting doesn’t work well on the Analogue device at the moment. The resolution switching it does during the bout freaks it out. Hopefully they’ll fix this in an update.

That’s a bummer. Hopefully it’s fixable. That doesn’t sound trivial, but they’ve been pretty good so far.

I flipped through this briefly tonight and it seems like a super tribute to everyone’s favorite Direct host. Makes me sad, but also love that someone took the time to write this too.

Picked up a new PC Engine game last week, Super Raiden :+1:

Never even know about it!

Is this basically the Hucard version ported to CD with a fancy arranged soundtrack or were there any improvements or extras of note?

I didn’t even know there was a Hu Card version. Are you sure your not mistaking R-Type for Raiden?
That was a Hu Card that was ported to CD.

No, I own R-TYPE on both Hucard (TG-16) and R-TYPE Complete CD.

Raiden was also released on Hucard for both TG-16 and PCE:

As well as the arranged soundtrack there are a few extra levels and the difficulty has been toned down.

Now I have a fully juiced up PC Engine

Turbo Everdrive Pro
EDFX (RGB and Stereo CD audio output)
PCEBT Bluetooth adapter

So I guess this will become my main PCE unit for convenience, damn shame to semi-retire the RGB modded Duo RX, it’s done me well for many years but with this and the interface unit (which I’ll eventually RGB mod) for when I want to use real CDs I’m really covered.

Also while I’m usually huge on using original controllers for all consoles as much as possible, frankly using wireless SNES and Saturn pads for everything (Plus I have wireless Famicom and Fami Dog Bone for two button stuff) just works better for almost everything.

Ow wow, you’re right. I was never aware of there being a Hu-Card version.
Upon checking Yahoo Auctions Japan, it’s quite rare.

To be honest I think the official PC Engine controllers are a bit uncomfortable. The D-pad on them is way too small.

I’ve never had any complaints about them. Rounded enough to be comfortable, and the dpad sits somewhere between Nintendo and Saturn. And Turbo is useful in many shooters.

But using the SNES pad it just disappears into my hands, it feels perfect. This also goes for non-shooters or non-fighters on Sega consoles too, it’s just so much more precise a dpad and the buttons are more solid too.

The turbo feature is indeed nice and very welcome in many games but I do think the D-pad is a little small.
