some RPCS3 shots,
That looks niiiiiice, how are the various scaling/scanline modes?
Have you seen the retrosix shells for the GG btw? https://www.instagram.com/p/CG-MA0MHanJ/
I was planning on consolizing the GG I have but think I might just throw in a new screen and put on a nice shell.
I haven’t tried the master system games on it yet, so I’m not sure about some of the modes, as I don’t see them as being useful (yet).
The default mode, and the default mode with scanlines are both great though, and I’ll probably use both depending on my mood.
Thanks for the link on the shell! I was actually looking for one yesterday as my shell has some tiny missing bits near the dpad. I don’t think it changes gameplay, but I think having a purple GG would be rad.
Does the default cut a bit off the screen? I remember watching something about the screen being almost perfect except maybe 2x integer cutting a bit off.
Yeah the GG in purple would look rad. I really like most of these colours and can’t decide which one to get!
Yeah I read that too, but it looks the same to me. I think it depends on the mode you use. The 2x integer scaling cuts off some image that’s definitely noticable, but the default upscale doesn’t.
Here’s some GBA SP screenshots after testing GBA Everdrive. Not as cool as CRT, but, it’s still an low res TFT LCD (240 x 160)
@SNESFan89 Nice shots! I wish I had an AGS101 SP.
The low poly charm of SFEX+α
Is this game any good? Looks adorable
I really like it, it’s a little clunky by today’s standards but I remember having a lot of fun with the training mode.
I love the ps1 aesthetic. It gets such a misplaced bad rep these days. But I’m sure that will turn around in a few years time.
People hate early 3D because they usually view it on high res displays. If they saw it on a nice CRT more often, I think it would get more of the love it deserves.
Aliens on Arcade / MAME. Japanese version (with no APC stages). Samsung CRT 15’’ with native Scart RGB input, Pi2Scart (15khz).
Amazing pictures!
That is what I remember seeing in the arcade and your tv does such an incredible job of maintaining that style. No solid scanlines, line count just enough to merge the pixels in the sprite art.
I used to play a ton of 3D games in the arcades during the turn of the century and lcd displays really weren’t a main stray in most cabinets until 2007-2009.
Makes me sad that so many people missed out on the opportunity, but so many places had gone away at the time.
Actually, they are presented, but not as PVM’s black-thick scanlines. I actually prefer when scanlines are not that “in your face” kinda thing.
This is the best feature of older crt monitors because of how they avoid presenting themselves. Mainly it’s due to having a higher bloom effect on stronger, brighter colors, so sometimes it can appear as if there truly aren’t any.
I don’t get a clue as to why people who emulate think 15khz graphics were meant to be razor sharp to begin with. Most early 80’s arcades were intended with fuzzy sprites and even tv makers like Zenith, RCA, and Toshiba had a very nice method of making sprites look more like true whole characters as opposed to being a bunch of drawn lines or pixel blocks.
Do you think that was an intentional choice? I had a Zenith for a large part of the 90s and my games did look pretty great on it even through composite and RF.
