I liked the two tone. Given that the front panel is still grey, the grey base ties the room together
Iām an all blue guy.
The two tone looks way cooler to me but you canāt really go wrong here.
Yeah I think Iāll get one of these to match the two tone
And of course Iāll likely be obsessive and swap out the VMU window part with a blue swirl one from a PAL controllerā¦
BTW I think they are very similar colour, my photos are just done with very orange light which makes it seem more purple.
Hey guys!
I need some advice. I think the disk drive died in my dreamcast, so do you have any troubleshooting tips to run through? Also, if it is truly dead, what do you recommend doing? I have a VA2 Dreamcast so I canāt get an ODE. Also I only have 4 Dreamcast games, so Iām not that invested in the console. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
You can replace the drive in a VA2 with a VA1 Drive, it just means removing the daughterboard.
So probably buying a new drive and looking up how to swap it out is the easiest if itās dead.
Which drive? Are the aftermarket ones good?
No idea sorry, I was meaning just an OEM one on ebay etc.
There should be quite a few floating around due to so many people moving to GDEMU.
If youāre handy with a soldering iron you can try recapping the drive before messing with something like the potentiometer.
Hereās a funny one. My new Dreamcast controller isā¦
Via the 8bitdo DIY bluetooth kit for Gamecube and blueretro!
It honestly works brilliantly for Dreamcast. Feels fantastic and somehow perfectly natural. By default it swaps B and X which matches the Dreamcast pretty well. But I actually swapped them back (via the blueretro adapter settings) so in-game prompts are correct, and it works brilliantly that way since most DC games seem to have A as main/attack and B as secondary/cancel anyway. EG Crazy Taxi with buttons acceleration (I like to switch gears with the shoulders).
Maybe it could be rebrandedā¦
Grabbed this matching shell off Aliexpress too, but it canāt beat the all white one!
The GC controller looks great in white, ordered a couple myself recently.
Had some free time this week and decided to make a game for Dreamcast. Took a bunch of my existing assets and something new popped out pretty quickly and easily. Exciting!
- 1 to 4 player
- arcade driving
- coin collecting
- powerup packed
- arena battle
- mayhem
Will release first week of January 2025 as part of the Dream Disc '24 game jam.
Still some things I want to add and improve.
Video (thereās a pause of several seconds at the beginning as I wait for my controller to connect, just hang in there)
So, the GTA 3 port to Dreamcast is INSANE.
Itās very nearly commercial product quality.
Does doing a boot disc swap to play imports lead to disc read errors? Iām playing on a North American DC.
On both imports I have (shenmue 1 EU version and HOTD2 Japanese version) the game freezes after about 10 minutes of play. HotD2 in particular is a very mint disc without so much as a smudge on it.
I think it could just be the laser dying though. SoulCalibur ās music is skipping on occasion and thatās a North American version of the game.
Other games I have are running error-free though.
It really shouldnāt.
Shenmue disc 1 is famous for being a test for failing Dreamcast lasers.
Give the lens a clean and if it doesnāt help look into adjusting the laser.
I released my Dreamcast game last night.
Iāll be pushing updates to it over time with new features.
Iām amazed that my old and yellowed Dreamcast still works after 25 years.
Nice one! Iāll be downloading this for the weekend
Iāll be sure to comment on the game once Iāve had a chance to play it.
Iāll check it out too when I get a minute!
Bloody GDEMU menu builder craps out when modifying an image on Macos⦠but luckily I grabbed another SD card to play GTA3 without a complete image rebuild!
Oh! GDMENUCardManager 2 is working fine on macOS for me. I use the files in folders approach.
This is what Iām using.
For some reason it just decides it canāt add games and errors out. Any time I build a card I have to start from scratch.
