Super Mario Odyssey |OT| - Honey, moons before the wedding.

A bit surprised the mods let it stand. I read bride and groom as the good guys and bad guys, but maybe that’s not how others are taking it.

This game is a damn masterpiece. Where does everyone rank it among Mario’s 3D platformers?

I’m now 2 hours into it and I want to gaf the shit out of this and say it’s already my favorite Mario ever.

It takes everything great about 64 and adds 25 years of experience to it. It’s quirky and weird in all the best ways. The music is incredible the graphics are great and most importantly its fun as hell to play.

IT EVEN HAS ME USING AND ENJOYING THE MOTION CONTROLS

It’s better than 64 & Sunshine. Need to keep playing but I don’t think anything can top 3D World for me, but they’re also very different playing games.

This game is flooring me. I think it’s safely better than 64. I love 3DW, and whether this tops it will probably depend on how the post-game tough stuff is. (it’s probably better)

i got the game last week and already beat it. i need to find all things for 100% now.

for me, the game felt a lot closer to Galaxy due to the looks and how things move and how movement feels. the resemblance to 64/Sunshine is pretty much how it is designed but it doesn’t feel like those games at all.

I sort of agree. It’s not 64/Sunshine, it’s not Galaxy, and it’s not 3DL/W.

It’s something completely new and different while being an homage to each of those.

Got my Switch bundle last night. Didn’t get to open it, will do it tonight and try it out. Pretty excited to see what all the hubub is!

Mario is having a good ol time

I haven’t been this floored with a Mario Game since 64. I loved the Galaxy games but always wished I wasn’t using motion controls. Also, despite what @Socksfelloff said I am trying not to enjoy motion controls. But that is mainly due to the tiny size of the joycons not because of the motion controls.

I really enjoy the split Joycons and think it’s the best way to play 3d games. It took me a while to get used to it but I’m fully on the Joycon train.

I don’t use the motion for movement or looking but it’s pretty decent to do the flick commands with Cappy.

Until they make joycons that are not designed for children and Donald Trump hands it is just pain all day for me. For whatever reason retro controllers never hurt but there is something about the analog and the way it moves that is just murder when the controllers are so small. I just don’t get why controllers are designed for small hands when it is much easier to “choke up” on a controller than to contort larger hands to tiny things. Everyone on the GBA Mini train must not have any issue with their joints. I don’t even have arthritis but certain little controllers just freaking hurt.

How are you trying to hold them? They just melt in my hands

Thumbs centered on the joycon. I had the same exact problem with 3DS and N3DS. I don’t have any specific way that i hold them but when it just hurts because i can’t actually hold the controller in my hand due to their size. So they mostly rest where my hands meet my fingers instead of my palms like a pro controller would be. Basically, i feel like they don’t even touch my hands but rest on part of my fingers closest to my hand so they I am really reaching to put my thumb where it should be.

Suffice it to say, I want pro versions of the joycons with a decent grip. Something akin to the Monster Hunter grip for the New 3DS XL.

Have you tried adding the straps? They add size to the joycons.

Yup, barely makes a dent in the way they feel. I ordered some grips from play asia that add triggers to the joycon. I am hoping this fixes that for me.

I can use it with the straps or in portable mode and doc it without having to remove the grips.

On a side note, I have all these now

What is wrong with me? I don’t know why I keep buying Amiibo.

Do they unlock anything noteworthy? I’ve sworn off all amiibo

They don’t unlock anything note worthy. They unlock something that can be unlocked in game. But I do buy Amiibo that are well designed. The Bowser looks nothing like that image. He’s got a cracked jaw and gaps where his hands are attached. Look at an unboxing and you will see this is how all of them look.

But much of my Amiibo did unlock cosmetic stuff in game.

I have to say overall I’m a bit disappointed in the game. It’s great and all and I’d recommend it to everyone, but its…it’s just so damn easy. Everytime they come with a cool scenario I’m like “oh cool, can’t wait to see what this is…oh I already completed it…”. I’m right at the very end of the main quest and I hope the post-game is gonna hold some surprises like most Mario games, but I’m just breezing through everything without a second thought and I can’t help but shake the feeling it could have been much better. I’ll hold off my final judgment until I fully complete the game, post-game stuff and all, but it’s it’s on the lower spectrum of Mario games as of now for me.

There’s much to be loved however so don’t take my words too negatively. I still consider this a classic, just not as much as I would other Mario’s.

I agree with you about the difficulty. Nintendo needs to give fans some “lost levels” style content in the 3D games. It would’ve helped a lot with 3D World.

Still, the game is a fun “chill” experience in my humble opinion.
