The official Retro Core / Battle of the Ports thread

A few weeks back I received a fake PS4 controller. It looks legit to the untrained eye and even felt good but is it worth buying as a second controller or a first controller? They are practically a quarter of the official price so let’s take a look.

I’m not sure that’s a fake. They’ve been trying to unload those gold controllers for low prices for awhile now. I don’t think they were very popular at all. I really think it’s a Sony official one from another region. Maybe Tomtop got some that fell off a truck somewhere?

I’m not sure about that. They also had them in other colours too. I’m going to open it up to see if it is legit or fake.

I do have to say that is one of the most convincing fakes. The led difference really does kind of give it away though, that is definitely a much cheaper led in there.

Let’s take a look at a game that should have never been given the Thundercats name.

I used to try and play the Spectrum version back in the day, it was impossibly hard, and like you said absolute crap. The best bit about your video was the official music at the end :grinning:

yeah, I added that so the whole video wasn’t a total loss and had something of quality in it

Today, I took a look at the X2

It’s been a great month for pick ups but sadly still waiting on my Japanese Bloodstained game.

The weekend is here so that means another Battle of the ports.

Ever thought the beloved 16 bit Nintendo console had next to no shooters on it? Well think again. In this 4 part series we will take a look at every commercially available shooter on the system.

Part 2 will be released on October 30th 2019

It’s time to take a look at a computer game that was a actually an arcade game first even though it was running on a home computer. Strange. This is the Bitmap Brothers Xenon.

What do we have here? A plug’n play Mega Drive built in to a joystick? Is it any good I wonder? Let’s take a look.

Axelay is universally acclaimed as one of the best shooters on the system. I can’t believe you’re apologizing for one of top games on the system in this video. WTF?

If you’re referring to that “Honest Gamers” review, well, that’s a joke. It’s the only negative review I could find. Who’s calling it bad?!

Ive never watched honest gamer but there are those who really dislike it. There’s even comments in the thread by a person who is not a fan. Personally I like it.

Axelay is a GOAT 16 bit shooter. The music and graphics are stunning, I think the best looking and sounding shooter of the era.

Yeah. I don’t buy it. This is the first I have ever heard of Axelay being spoken of negatively. Retro hot take of the year.

That image makes me sad.

it’s the shmups community, there will always be someone ready to tell you the game you like is a piece of shit. have honestly seen a ton of people dump on axelay throughout the years, mainly because of the vertical levels stage design and hit detection.
