If this is typical of the current Nintendo practices, then the patches will be separate to the ROM and applied during loading by the emulator.
Yeah. You’re probably right. Still though, maybe it’s possible to dump the patch as well and apply it to the ROM later.
Do you think this likely given the spec of the hardware? Seems like a lot of effort to go through runtime patching with Lua just for a couple of quite minor hacks, it’s not like the 3d collection where it was doing texture replacements and more drastic changes to the original code.
I don’t know, but Lua can run on pretty much any CPU and has very light requirements (see Playdate)
The latest hacking videos state that the G&W has custom firmware that isn’t Linux-based (NES/SNES Mini are)
I’d expect NERD to have just compiled their emulator (including the Lua patcher) to this different architecture. It would be more work not to do so. But I’m just guessing.
Are there any OSS licences on the G&W?
Interesting info, thanks. I havent seen much chatter about in the twitter feeds that I follow since the initial hack really, it all seemed to go a bit quiet once people realised you weren’t going to be able to load it full of ROMs!
Given the size of NES roms I think you’ll be able to load all your favourites.
Latest details Super Mario Bros 35th Anniversary Direct
I’ve seen that stuff but I was talking more about discussion on the included ROM, I dont intend to hack mine.
I finally got around to ripping my Fami/NES carts. I even learned how to apply English patches!
The issue I’m having with the INL dumper right now is that it is command line only and doesn’t support any of the old Kazzo scripts.
Does anyone here know if there are any Konami (VRC) mapper scripts available or in the works yet? I’d be down to try to figure this out myself but I don’t really know where to begin.
This guy gets legit nes roms, etc through his 3DS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLYytIVcsWU&t=2s
Also I was wondering if there are obtainable roms in the old PC version of Activision Anthology Remix?
Cool, welcome to the community!
If it’s emulation it’s likely the ROMs are in there.
If you’re lucky they won’t be compressed or obfuscated
You’d need to do binary search on the ISO for a section (the header?) of one or more of the ROMs.
A Hex editor with a good search function is all you need.
Thanks I’ll let you know if it works. I’d also like to try Taito Legends, but that’s like 5 times the price.
edit: might be awhile before I can get my hands one one… don’t hold your breath
I have those so I can try.
Just finished installing a CopyNES! Instead of doing a bunch of pictures this time I thought I’d try something new and post a YouTube video. In the video I run through how to use the CopyNES to dump a game and how to edit the header. This is my first time doing one of these. Let me know what you think!
Great! Your reaction when the corrupt game started. Hahaha.
That garbled VRC6 music was truly horrible. At least it was an easy fix!
Have anyone tested BennVenn’s NES cart dumper?
8 Eyes on Steam has a nes rom in it. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\8 Eyes\res
The rom file is “game”. It is altered from the original to (at the very least) show the new publisher & copyright for 2018. Runs pretty good in Steam already using mednafen.
Thanks for the tip. It was even on 65% sale today.
Well, since that made you happy… Nightshade also has a “game” rom and is 65% off this week
