What are you playing these days?

Astral Chain is amazing. That is all.

Agreed, it’s a really good game!

I forgot that existed. Is it the usual copy-paste Compile Heart RPG game design?

No my friend, not just a compile copypaste, its THE compile\persona\valkyriachronicles\whoknowswhat Frankenstein monster. But mostly a compile copypaste.

Been playing Ninja Warriors Once Again/Ninja Saviours Return of the Warriors. This is my first time playing the game and I really like it. Went through the game on Normal last night and couldn’t put it down until I beat the last boss. Really looking forward to playing the time trials now.

It’s refreshing playing a brawler with an accessible moveset and a single plane, it really forces you to focus on what’s in front of you even when some of the level segments aren’t up to much.

I wonder how it’s been programmed. It’s running on Unity but I suspect only the front-end is, since the game is surprisingly low latency like Namco Museum (also Unity) was.

That’s a shame. But it does sound interesting just to see how generic it is. It’s a pity Compile Heart/Idea Factory hasn’t produced anything particularly interesting from a gameplay standpoint since Trillion: God of Destruction. That was pretty good.

Now that I’m near the end of Judgement I’ve been putting time in to Control.

I love what I’ve played so far, but I need to finish it soon as Gears 5 and Borderlands 3 arrive soon.

Well, after playing a bit more of dark rose Valkyrie, I can say it has nice ideas for the story, too bad they depend on a dating sim aspect that is just hard. And the new game plus aspect of it is just terrible. I went to read on some things about the game, since i felt so lost, and ended up spoiling myself, ruining most of my desire to play the game.

Right now Im playing Sonic allstars racing single player, and Sonic allstars racing transformed with a friend. After that, cosmic star heroine, a retro style RPG will be my next game to play.

Playing River City Girls now…it’s pretty good!

Looks great! On my list.

Just finished up Polyball on PC yesterday. It’s a marble rolling game with a focus more on speed and a little exploration than puzzles.

It’s fantastic!

Yay! All you hoped for?

What about the other marble games that were coming out recently? One More Roll?

Yeah it was a little slow to start, then got worse as the levels got more difficult… Once I got past a certain point, I gave up on making sure I got gold on each course. That’s not really like me, as I’m always the one going for the best times (that’s why I love these games).

Once I gave up on getting gold though, the game really opened up and became seriously fun. I played through the remainder of the game in 2 sittings and had an absolute blast.

I’m not sure if it’s the difficulty curve of the game climbing faster than my skill level, but once I was done the game I was ready to go back and start racing for times and start doing the marathons.

There’s also steam workshop support, so there are a bunch of user made maps as well.

I installed Marble Skies and plan on putting some time into it. It’s a self-described spiritual successor to Marble Blast, which is far and away the best marble have ever made, so I have high hopes for it.

I have One More Roll on my wishlist… That one looks crazy good, too.

I really like Control despite it’s framerate issues. It’s been a long time (Psi-Ops) since we’ve had a good physics based action game. The story feels like it could have been an X-Files episode. I’m at the end of the game and looking to wrap things up before I start Astral Chain.

Anyone here playing Blasphemous? I really really like it. Take the grim and mournful aspects of Castlevania and Crank it up to 11 and you’ve got blasphemous.

I picked it up on switch.

Baba Is You on Switch. Superb.

And our cat loves it.

I’m at a moment where I’m not entirely sure what I’m playing, which kinda means I’m not playing anything at all. I bought a used 3DS recently and it’s a novelty to use a 8-year old system in 2019 - I already finished Dragon Quest VIII (which was the game I bought the system for) so now I currently turn it on to play some Nintendo Badge Arcade and some Sega 3D Classics every once in a while.

But on actually trying to play something, I recently restarted Final Fantasy Adventure for the umpteenth time. I actually love this game, but never really went much further than Wendel for some reason as I keep restarting it! I had finished Trials of Mana a month of two prior and realized how much I love the Mana series, so I decided to get on on the only game in the original trilogy which I haven’t finished yet. The music is lovely and the poor translation is even kinda charming; might go back to it soon.

Mostly two games from the past - Seiken Densetsu 3, which just gets better and better as I continue playing it. I like its character in the sense that it doesn’t take everything by the nose. There’s the ghost ship sequence which is pretty amusing (before you realise you’re on a ghost ship), and the misfiring cannon was great.

Funnily enough two people I know played the fan translation back in the day and they’ve been dropping in and out of my playthrough whenever we find time to do co-op. It’s great in co-op since you can spread the burden of spell casting between two minds instead of one. And it makes dungeon crawling fly by.

I also picked up the Castlevania Double Pack a few weeks ago. Slowly making my way through Aria of Sorrow, which I had only previously played the cut-back Java port made for mobile phones! The GBA original is significantly better, of course.

Aria of Sorrow feels like a really well executed Symphony of the Night-style game but with tighter level and castle design. The level design really shines since the game never holds your hands but it also doesn’t open up too many options so there’s minimal backtracking without purpose. Just cleared the arena which had a fantastic boss fight! The game’s pretty challenging throughout as well, in part due to the shortage of save rooms and teleporters.

This is like me! Got Adventure of Mana/Mystic Quest on Game Boy but I always get to Wendel. I did get further in the mobile remake but ring menu aside that game’s visuals really suck the life out of a world which simply appeared more detailed on Game Boy.

Maybe I’ll give it another go after I finish Trials of Mana…

Had some great multi-player Switch last night.

Heave Ho
analog stick plus one trigger for each hand lets you climb using only your arms, across a series of obsacles to the finish. you can helpo hinder each other and mayhem is the result. looks and sounds great, too. Not a great name for the game, as it conjures up tug-of-war rather than the climbing and japes that the game is about.

Nippon Marathon
For fans of Muscle March, Tomena Sanner or Escape Kids games. Or fans of Takeshi’s Castle or Total Wipeout! obstacle-course TV shows. We had so much fun with this last night. Presentation is OTT Japanese Meme Overload, and the design is purposefully bonkers, but it is just a lot of fun to race through this crazy world with friends. The trailer really does a lot to convey the fun, but it really is more than you coudl imagine hands-on.

Still doing Seiken Densetsu 3 Fridays. I’m on the bit where you’ve got to defeat the eight Benevodons.

The erm, lightning cloud boss was giving us a lot of trouble…

Otherwise not much else, I did check out Puyo Puyo Champions’ new lesson mode which is very well implemented, and I’ve been dabbling with some of the Apple Arcade games.

After a gap of 2 years I’m playing Mario Odyssey again. I’m at New Donk City.
