Neat! Apparently it supports 15khz so you should be able to do 240p!
Ok, there’s a 36FS320 free in my area. Might be my only chance to get a big-screen CRT that is high quality. I can’t use it right now … but it’s hard to pass up for free…
Just do it.gif
Ok, I’m returning to this thread for more wisdom.
Does this look like an FV310 to y’all?
Paging @Socksfelloff
It sure does ! Unfortunately it could be several other models as well. You’ll have to get the model number from that to be sure.
Off the top of my head it could even be a 5 series which is when they start becoming crap hdtvs
Thanks pal. Guy says he has the manual laying around and will check tomorrow for me. Purchased new in 2004 … which would seem to be just before the EDTV and HD tube TVs started coming out, right?
Yup it does… It’s definitely not the FS320, as they have memory stick slots on the front. Could be an HS model though.
Unsure on that one. I could check tomorrow and see if there is a build date on either of mine.
The 300 and 320 also look identical and are SD sets. The 300 doesn’t have as good of a picture as the 310 and I don’t think anyone has had any conclusive impressions of the 320
@raskulous does the 320 have the memory stick duo slot too ?.I thought that was the 520
The FV300 doesn’t have the darker grey inner border. Same picture tube as the FV300, but it doesn’t have the high voltage regulator for the red bloom reduction.
The FS320 has memory stick.
The HS500 has memory stick.
The HS510 has memory stick.
I’m almost certain that’s an FV310.
Great info ! I didn’t know that about the border
I thought I should cross post this from the AV thread because it’s more relevant here :
Well after several hours of playing around in the service menu I’m unable to get my new 310 to look as good as my current one so this will be the one I do a tear down and rebuild on. Maybe some new caps and some hardware adjustments will bring it back to new.
I took some photos on my Pixel 2 phone. It does a pretty good job of taking the shots but it does butcher the colors sometimes. I’n really just worried about how “clean” the image looks.
Here’s my current 310
Here’s my new 310. We are talking a very slight difference in clarity
For comparison here my BVM1911. The color/brightness/contrast is out of wack but I’m comparing clarity here
For fun I brought out my JVC 32D503 which is an 800 line 32" monitor that I was never very happy with. Heres how it looked:
After finding a setting in the service menu it now looks like this!
I’m blown away by the improvment on the JVC. It’s like going from composite - RGB. The D series are a curved shadow mask tube which gives it a very different look then compared to the trinitrons andI think I actually prefer it for older arcade games and the curved tube gives it perfect geometry as well.
I’m unable to dial in the colors, contrast and brightness properly on the JVC. Everything gets overblown with alot of color bleed. I wonder if a hardware level tuneup can make it nice and crispy.
Yea, I really dig the globe-like shadow mask look.
For most games I prefer the sharp as nails scaler/bvm look but for older arcade games like Donkey Kong or Dig Dug I really love the blooming shadow mask it really feels allot more like an older arcade monitor.
I really like those JVC D-Series sets. I’ve been looking for one locally for a while now, as well as a curved XBR with component.
Welp.
Yer done
Nice, get it!
In Europe, you don’t really NEED a PVM. An High-end CRT will do fine, since almost every TV here has the Scart RGB input.
Congrats. What did you end up originally finding it on?
I saw one with composite. NES looked really good on it but the owner wanted $90.
I wasn’t willing to bite at that price considering my lack of space. But I really really dig the chassis of it. One day maybe.
