Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

The list is: All Games

The bug was how 480p is configured in the SDK and everything was built using the SDK.

Wow. Maybe I’ll try some Wii U games at 480p (Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate perhaps) with the Wii component cable just to see what the picture should be like.

But I don’t think you could set Wii U’s output to 480p via component, only 576i…or was that for Wii games only?

I can’t remember. And I think Wii output from Wii U has other issues?

Yeah, from what I remember if you use component it forces Wii mode into 50hz either on a global level or if the game supports it.

I’ll try Wii U software via component, so probably a port like Monster Hunter Tri but with the Wii U set to output 480p (if that’s possible on a PAL unit) via component.

I guess that explains why my Wii always had such sharp output. Good to know I wasn’t going crazy.

And how nice to unknowingly win one of the “Nintendo hardware lotteries.”

Also, it’s proof that the red Wii is secretly the best Wii.

Trying make sense of the 480p issue- it sounds like a bug was found that affects all 480p output, but the fix depends on a homebrew solution involving bickering developers?

I recently snagged a Wii for really cheap and was trying to decide the best way to hook it up: component cables or one of those wii-to-hdmi adapters. Will it make any difference?

I can only speak for component. It’s good.

Finally had some time to myself and Wii won my attention.

  • GTi Club, unlocked Advanced (7/10 game)
  • Stunt Flyer, unlocked Nimbus (8/10 game)
  • Mario Kart Wii, tried the 480p fix. It’s legit.

Wow. Astute observations!

Nice! It’s a slight difference but the extra sharpness is most welcome.

I wonder if this would even show on a CRT.

I’ll hook up my PVM when I get a chance.

News is that soon USB Loader GX and WiiFlow (my personal choice) will get patches to enable the 480p fix for any game they load. Yay!

Is it possible to use an external hdd with Wiiflow? And how easy is it to copy your games to that hdd? I assume you insert the disc and just copy?

Yup you can do all of that with Wii Backup Manager.

Yes, you can use external USB HDD or memory stick.
With WiiFlow you can also use the internal SD (which some other loaders cannot do)

I keep my current games on internal SD, very neat.
The USB holds the rest of my collection and is only plugged in occasionally.

As long as the USB was plugged in when you refreshed WiiFlow, it will show all games even if USB not plugged in. Very handy.

To get discs onto the SD/USB I use Wii homebrew utility CleanRip which runs on the Wii itself and takes ~30 minutes to rip a disc, see the ripping thread for more info.

Thanks guys. I check if I still have a bigger SD laying around somewhere and try it out on the weekend.

Edit: One question left. I remember the Wii could only use SD cards up to 2gb or so? At least officially. Do I need to modify it further (just have the hbc right now as I used an app to play region locked games) for bigger sized SD cards?
