Hadn’t realised Amazon has exclusive distribution rights to this. Bit disappointed the UK price is set to £100 by them - the RRP was meant to be 89 Euros or $100, and Amazon Japan has set the price at 11,500 yen (£85)…I still want one though.
There’s an overview page here of all three models: https://www.amazon.co.jp/b/?ie=UTF8&language=en_US&node=6974564051
One question though: other than the cosmetics and slight game lineup changes is there any other difference between the three models? Does the Coregfx model emulate the HU6280a CPU instead for instance across all the games?
My preorder has been in for what seems like forever now. Right now this is my number one most exciting retro thing coming in 2020. I’m interested in Analogue Pocket but I know the price will make me retch when combined with their $30 shipping cost.
I’m going to import the PC Engine Mini instead of getting the Core Grafx Mini locally. I recently grabbed Salamander Portable (finally…) so I’ll take Tokimeki Memorial over that. Already have emulated Splatterhouse on Namco Museum Switch.
I echo @DaveLong’s thoughts, heck it’s probably my most anticipated piece of hardware full stop. Wonder if the USB ports will accept generic controllers though - I wouldn’t mind picking up a multitap and turbo controller but I can’t justify getting four controllers for Bomberman.
GameCentral has a hands-on preview up complete with footage of the front-end/home menu. Looking good: https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/17/pc-engine-mini-hands-preview-original-mini-console-12074508/
I think I’ll just get the European version since it comes with a turbo controller. If I got the PC Engine Mini I’d inevitably end up buying a turbo controller on top.
Is there any chance that snatcher will be in English since it’s on the us version
Very unlikely I’d say… If they would localise any of the games they would have shouted it from the rooftops.
It would be a massive selling point if it was even just that one game.
Delayed until further notice, perhaps this is why the North American listing was showing as out of stock earlier this week?

Regarding the manufacturing and shipping delays of the TurboGrafx-16 mini products due to the Coronavirus disease
(COVID-19)
We thank you for your continual support towards our products and services.
Regarding the TurboGrafx-16 mini console and its peripheral accessories, the manufacturing and shipping facilities in China have encountered an unavoidable suspension due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. As a result, the delivery of all TurboGrafx-16 mini products, which was originally scheduled for March 19th, 2020, will be delayed until further notice.
We deeply apologize to our customers for the significant inconvenience, and we humbly ask for your understanding and patience while we keep our close attention on the situation. We are investing all of our efforts to deliver the TurboGrafx-16 mini as soon as possible, and will provide further details on the deliver timing once confirmed.
The same notice appears on the EUR (https://www.konami.com/games/pcemini/eu/en/) page.
However, the JPN page (https://www.konami.com/games/pcemini/jp/ja/) has a longer notice:
- If you ordered the PC Engine Mini on the 5th or earlier, it’ll arrive on time
- If you ordered it after the 5th, or any of the other specified products (CoreGrafx, TG16, multitap, extra controllers) it’s going to be delayed to an unspecified date
Wow, guess I would be getting it much, much later then.
Takahashi Meijin got his
Brilliant!
Interesting. This is the first time I’ve seen a direct impact on production of something due to the virus. I’m sure it’s happened elsewhere but this is a product I’m actually following. Wonder when it will come out now…
My understanding is the Nintendo Switch has a similar issue atm. Animal Crossing bundles never made it out of China.
Pretty sure it’s going to affect many, many industries.
The FDA in America has confirmed at least one major drug shortage, with more to follow.
My Core Grafx Mini got cancelled, but I appear to have lucked out with the PC Engine Mini!
I’m one of the lucky ones - received my PC Engine Mini today, just a day after launch! Very well coordinated global shipping from Amazon Japan and DHL.
Here’s hardware photos:
The controller cable length is very generous:
And some photos of the front-end/filters:
You can set the CRT filter as an on/off toggle for every display mode which is nice. Though you have to quit your game every time you want to switch which might be frustrating if you forget which games look more natural in 4:3 mode and vice versa.
Here’s some photos of the filters - the CRT filter isn’t as bright as the “vintage” filter from the Sega Ages games on Switch, which is a shame, but it still looks like there is a bit of compensating from the scanlines.
