TurboGrafx16/PC Engine Mini Announced

Thanks for all that info! I’m hoping they don’t delay the US ones too much longer. I’d love to have this to try while I’m stuck at home

You’re very welcome!

Me too. I think they might be releasing soon - on Amazon Japan both the Core Grafx and TG 16 are listed for April 12 now which is a lot sooner than I expected! Extra accessories are due at the end of April, so I suspect most of that turbo controller production is going toward those two console variants.

As for the PC Engine Mini, I remain very impressed by the front-end, there’s so many games that I really need to focus on a few, but enjoying the vast majority of what I’ve been playing. Only the highly derivative or dull have disappointed.

I think the emulation exhibits the same quirks/issues that M2’s work with Mega Drive/Genesis Mini had, though. There’s definitely a slight input delay and there’s noticeable audio delay which can be distracting once you’re aware of it. Probably a hardware limitation.

It was to be expected!=O

Wish I had preordered  It’s probably going to take quite a while until I’ll get my hands on one here in Europe.

Even though I’m furloughed as of today, I kept my preorder for the US version of this. I figure at worst I can re-sell it for decent bank or sell other stuff to pay for it since I’ll likely never own a TG-16 or Duo.

I pre-ordered a core grafx from Amazon Japan the day they went up and it showed up today. I haven’t had a chance to unbox it or play with it at all yet though.

Surprisingly I haven’t been playing this all that much lately - I think it’s best to focus on one game at a time and slowly return to it rather than be distracted by dozens of games at once.

The input lag in some of the CD-ROM^2 system games is really disappointing though, makes the games feel like they were sloppily ported to Unity engine on the Switch or something. It varies by game - Lords of Thunder is pretty bad for example.

I’m close to clearing Bonk’s Revenge, which is a fun little romp, reminds me a lot of the early Wario Land games where you slowly progress through these dangerous environments while bashing into enemies and blocks. It’s quite methodological in a sense, since Bonk’s slow movement and attacks make mistakes more costly. The music is rad too - love the bonus stage’s beat!

Is this getting shipped soon? I’m seeing a lot of reviews of the TG-16 version.

No idea when Amazon US will ship, but Amazon Japan has been shipping all 3 models for awhile, and you can still go on their site and order them. Including the US TG16 one.

Thanks.

I have the TG16 model pre-ordered with Amazon US. But no shipping notification yet.

Yeah no idea what is going on with Amazon US or when they’ll ever get any. Its like all the stock is just going to, and only to Amazon.co.jp

It’s annoying because I ordered from Amazon US as soon as it went up, but we can’t order from Amazon JP here anymore. I guess I’ll just have to wait it out.

Amazon just updated my delivery estimate…

Waiting forever…

Maybe I should get the original system to try in the mean time?

Yeah you could do that.

Yeah everyone I know with an Amazon US pre-order has had their date slip till January. Meanwhile they’re completely in stock and shipping like as soon as you order them from Amazon Japan. I’m not really sure what is going on here with that.

So…any day now.
